On the 50th anniversary of the Emergency being imposed in India, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday blamed Congress for eroding democracy and insulting the Constitution for political motives. Addressing the press, Chief Minister Yadav said, "On this day in 1975, Indira Gandhi ji imposed the Emergency after she had lost elections. For its selfish causes, Congress never respects the law and the Constitution.

He also charged the Congress with hypocrisy, claiming that while the party today proclaims fidelity to the legacy of Dr BR Ambedkar, it had previously neglected and insulted him. "Today, they are crying crocodile tears for Dr BR Ambedkar. It would be better if they remembered how they insulted Dr BR Ambedkar and never allowed him to win an election," he said.

The Chief Minister further said that the Congress must apologise for what he called its "sins of the past," meaning the 21-month Emergency declared by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975.

In an attempt to mark the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar remembered participating in the Jayprakash Narayan Movement, which was against the Emergency. Taking to social media, Kumar added that Emergency was a symbol of dictatorship.

June 25, 1975, is a day we all recall when the Emergency was declared in the nation. It was dubbed the dark day in independent India's history. The 1975 Emergency was a symbol of the dictatorship of the then rulers. Under the Emergency, the freedom of expression of the masses was curbed," CM Nitish posted on X.
