In recent events, there has been an escalation of tension between Marathi and Hindi-speaking communities in the Mira-Bhayandar area. Such conditions have led to wide-ranging protests and demonstrations, creating a culture of tension and hostility in the region, as per an official press note.
The emergence of such conflict is indeed unfortunate and points towards the necessity of intercommunication and conflict resolution, the Maharastra Congress asserted through the press note. The Congress Party, in an effort to relieve this tension and promote dialogue, has taken the initiative and is organising a language workshop titled "We are Marathi, We are Indian" before State Congress President Harshavardhan Sapkal, the release added. The release further stated that the workshop is to take place on Tuesday, July 15, at the Asmita Club in Naya Nagar, Mira Road. It will have Marathi and Hindi-speaking local citizens of the Mira-Bhayandar region, along with Congress office-bearers and workers.
The programme aimed at fostering peace and harmony among people of different languages is called “We are Marathi, We are Indian…”

In Mira Road, there has been a Hindi-Marathi language controversy leading to independent protest marches by Traders and MNS workers. The Congress too is conducting a programme in Mira Road.
The party claims that the spirit of unity in diversity is the hallmark of India. People from different castes, religions, and linguistic backgrounds live in harmony in the country, the press release said.
Aforementioned, Mumbai and the state of Maharashtra are especially good examples of such diversity and are well known for their multicultural society, with individuals from all parts of India who migrated in search of work and business opportunities.
The party, as per its claim, contends that recent tensions over the matter of language have been intentionally provoked, and the state government has fuelled them further. External BJP leaders like MP Nishikant Dubey are making incendiary remarks which are further flaring the issue. It is regrettable that these clashes are being fanned for political motives before local body polls, the Maharastra Congress added in the release.
The party also added that ultimately it is the common man who suffers, and this is not good for society or Maharashtra as well. Thus, it is crucial that this conflict ends.
For creating harmony and brotherhood, the Mira-Bhayandar District Congress Committee is hosting this event under the guidance of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee Working President and ex-MLA Muzaffar Hussain.
