Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil is facing fresh trouble after the crime branch issued a notice asking him to appear for interrogation on Saturday. The questioning is related to a case of forging a fake identity card for a Youth Congress election. The case has resurfaced after Mamkootathil's name was allegedly mentioned in a voice message recovered from one of the accused's mobile phones.

This comes shortly after Mamkootathil resigned as the Youth Congress president following sexual harassment allegations. The crime branch has instructed him to appear at their office in Thiruvananthapuram.

Earlier, the Museum Police had initially investigated the case and questioned Mamkootathil, but he was not charged owing to a lack of significant evidence.

However, the crime branch, which subsequently took over the investigation, is now re-examining his involvement. Previously, six individuals were arrested in connection with the case, including four of Mamkootathil's close aides and a Youth Congress leader from Kasaragod, Jaisan, who had developed an application called 'C R Card' to create the fake cards.

Reports indicate that Mamkootathil's name was mentioned in an audio recording found on an accused's phone during a scientific examination.
