Schools go virtual after bomb threats disrupt Delhi, Noida schools

Several educational institutions in Delhi and Noida were targeted with bomb threats on Friday morning, prompting swift police intervention and thorough searches across campuses.

Ahlcon International School in Mayur Vihar-I reported receiving a bomb threat via email sent to the principal at around 6:40 a.m.

The school authorities immediately informed Pandav Nagar Police Station, following which the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and police personnel reached the scene.

Despite extensive checks, no suspicious items were found on the premises, according to the East District Bomb Disposal Squad.

Considering the situation, schools in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) were forced to close following the threats, prompting a swift transition to online classes.

A parent revealed that they were informed of the closure and the switch to virtual learning only on the same day.

“School administration is saying that school is closed today, and the classes will run online... They said nothing, but I think it's because of the bomb threat,” the parent stated.

Earlier, in a message to parents, the school principal announced the closure of the campus for the day, citing security concerns.

"Due to the threat to the safety of students, the campus will remain closed on Friday," read the email. Classes were conducted online.

A parent at the school shared, "School administration is saying that school is closed today, and the classes will run online... They told nothing, but I think it's because of the bomb threat."

In Noida, Shiv Nadar School also received a similar threat. Authorities, including the bomb squad, fire brigade, and dog squad, conducted a comprehensive search of the school.

"Senior police officers are present on the spot. The cyber team is investigating the email. The public is requested not to pay heed to the rumours and maintain patience," said Noida Police.

In another incident, St. Stephen’s College in North Delhi was also among the institutions that received a threat.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North District) said, "Today at 07:42 AM, a bomb threat via email was received by the college. Our BDT is on the ground and doing a check."

These incidents come after Delhi Police recently apprehended a juvenile responsible for sending over 400 hoax bomb threats to schools across the city.

Following a thorough investigation by the Cyber Cell of the South District Police, the accused—a public school student—was identified and detained.

The police recovered a laptop and two mobile phones from the accused, which revealed his involvement in sending threatening emails.

"The accused used anonymous and encrypted email services to conceal his identity but was eventually caught through advanced technical methods," officials stated.

A similar incident on January 8 had seen 23 schools in Delhi receiving bomb threats, leading to widespread panic and the temporary closure of educational institutions.

Police investigations into the latest threats are ongoing.
