Amid the relentless heatwave, the residents of several neighbourhoods in Delhi are grappling with acute water scarcities, resorting to queuing up for hours to collect water from tankers. The situation is particularly dire in areas such as Chilla Gaon in Mayur Vihar, Sanjay Colony in Okhla, and Geeta Colony.

Delhi's Water Minister, Atishi, revealed that over 28,000 individuals in the city are at risk of not having access to water as a result of a significant decrease in the daily water supply from Haryana, amounting to over 100 million gallons per day (MGD).

In an effort to protest the water shortage, BJP MLA Ramesh Bidhuri organised a demonstration at the Jal Board filling pump in Okhla, Delhi. The demonstration was met with the use of water cannons by the Delhi Police to disperse the crowd.

Subsequently, a video capturing the police dispersing the crowd using water cannons swiftly gained traction on social media. Many individuals on Twitter criticised the response by the Delhi Police, deeming it as ironic given the circumstances.
