Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat and IGP Kashmir on Monday visited the Gazaliabad HMT Srinagar residence of Senior Grade Constable Ajaz Ahmad Mir, who was among the ten people killed in the Nowgam Police Station explosion.
The top police officials met the family members of the deceased, expressed grief, and offered condolences on behalf of the Police Department.
Speaking to the media during the visit, DGP Prabhat said the police will continue to stand with the families of the personnel who lost their lives in the incident. “We will never forget them,” he said, adding that assistance will be provided to all affected families.
He conveyed a message of patience to the families of the police personnel killed in the blast. “The police will never forget these families, and we will continue to help them,” he said.
He said all possible support measures are being considered for the families of the nine personnel who were killed.
In a separate development, some Assamese locals in Tinsukia district detained 44 individuals from Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning after finding them moving around the Tinsukia Railway Station. The group of 44 men was later handed over to the Railway Police Force for verification.
According to locals, the men had been brought by a contractor for work in Arunachal Pradesh. “The group appeared suspicious to them in the backdrop of the recent blast in Delhi. We handed them over to the Railway Police for verification,” the locals said.
A majority of them belonged to the Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir and had arrived by train earlier in the day.
Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had said not every Kashmiri is a terrorist and feared that communal hate-mongering on social media platforms would harm ordinary Kashmiris who want to live peacefully.
Omar’s fears appear to have become reality in Assam; one wrong move could set a precedent across the rest of the country and might trigger incidents of violence against Kashmiri students, as seen after the Pahalgam attack.
