Ghosh's absence had triggered considerable speculation about his standing within the party.

In a move loaded with political symbolism, former Bharatiya Janata Party state president and once known to be Narendra Modi’s close aide Dilip Ghosh has been officially invited to Prime Minister’s rally scheduled for July 18 in Durgapur, West Burdwan.

Ghosh’s inclusion in the list of invited guests marks a notable shift in the West Bengal BJP's internal power dynamics. The invitation is particularly significant given his recent exclusion from high-profile party events, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s meetings in Alipurduar and at Netaji Indoor Stadium. His absence had triggered considerable speculation about his standing within the party— speculation only intensified by his own pointed remark: “Not even a chair can be found in a party meeting.”

However, the internal narrative appears to be changing with the appointment of newly-inducted BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya, who has emphasised a more inclusive and united leadership approach.

Upon taking charge, Bhattacharya had asserted that the party would function with the participation of “both old and new” members— an intent clearly reflected in the outreach to Ghosh.

Party insiders have confirmed that Ghosh will indeed attend the Durgapur rally. Moreover, he is expected to play a prominent role in the upcoming organisational initiatives aimed at revitalising the party’s base in North Bengal. This is seen as part of Bhattacharya’s broader strategy to bring back experienced leadership into the fold and rebuild unity in a faction-ridden state unit.

Ghosh’s return to the Prime Minister’s platform is being seen not merely as a gesture of reconciliation, but as a calculated signal of the new leadership’s “bridge-building politics.” Although the real impact of Ghosh’s re-entry on the state’s political dynamics remains uncertain, but it appears that the era of sidelining veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leaders may finally be drawing to a close.
