A Disc Jockey (DJ) from West Bengal was detained after he allegedly made a remark referring to a bomb during an argument with airline staff at Kempegowda International Airport, police said on Saturday.
The accused, Rajatesh Bera (40), a native of North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, was scheduled to travel from Bengaluru to Raipur on a flight operated by IndiGo on March 11.
According to police, Bera—who works as a Disc Jockey in Bengaluru—reached Gate No. 16 at Terminal 1 but was denied entry by airline staff as he had arrived after the boarding time. An argument reportedly broke out between him and the gate staff following the denial.
During the exchange, Bera allegedly remarked that the flight would stop if there was a bomb inside the aircraft, a senior police officer said. The mention of the word “bomb” immediately triggered security concerns at the airport.
Security personnel detained Bera and handed him over to the police. As part of standard aviation security protocol, a bomb threat assessment committee was also formed to evaluate the seriousness of the remark.
Police said that based on a complaint filed by airline staff, a case was registered against Bera on the charges of endangering life or personal safety of others and conducing to public mischief of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During questioning, Bera told investigators that he was trying to board the flight urgently as his father was unwell and he needed to travel immediately.
He was later released on bail, and further investigation into the matter is currently underway, police added.
