Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district carried out a surprise inspection of the lockers of doctors and medical staff at Government Medical College (GMC), officials said on Thursday.
The exercise began in the Valley on Wednesday. It was part of enhanced security measures after the recent Delhi explosion and the recovery of arms and ammunition in the “white-collar” terror module. It will ensure transparency, accountability and proper utilisation of hospital infrastructure, officials added.
Doctors in Jammu and Kashmir have come under the scanner of security and intelligence agencies after two south Kashmir–based doctors were allegedly found involved in a “white-collar” terror module.
The drive was conducted at the Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, from where an AK-47 rifle was recovered earlier this month from Dr Adeel Rather’s locker, officials mentioned.
The arrest of the doctor led to the busting of the “white-collar” terror module, involving several doctors and the recovery of around 2,900 kg of explosive material.
They further said the Anantnag Police, in coordination with the hospital administration, conducted a thorough inspection of all lockers at the GMC hospital.
During the inspection, unclaimed lockers were identified, and the hospital authorities were directed to update records to prevent any misuse.
