Two persons were killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between two goods trains in Jharkhand's Sahebganj district early on Tuesday, police reported.
The accident occurred at approximately 3 am near Bhognadih in the Barhait police station area.
The goods trains involved in the collision were operated by the state-run power major NTPC.
The tracks on which the incident occurred are also owned by NTPC, primarily used to transport coal to its power plants.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Sahebganj, Kishore Tirkey, confirmed the deaths of the drivers of both trains.
“The drivers of both the goods trains were killed in the head-on collision,” Tirkey informed.
Kausik Mitra, an Eastern Railway spokesperson, clarified that the trains and tracks involved in the accident belong to NTPC. “The goods trains and the track both belong to the NTPC. It has nothing to do with the Indian Railways,” Mitra said.
The line where the accident took place connects NTPC’s Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Station in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district to the Farakka Power Plant in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.
