A dry fruit seller who had set himself on fire after being picked up by police for questioning in connection with the “white-collar” terror module case has died of his injuries at a hospital here, officials said on Monday.
Bilal Ahmad Wani set himself on fire on Sunday in Qazigund. He was referred to SMHS Hospital here after his condition worsened at a hospital in Anantnag late on Sunday, the officials said.
Wani succumbed to his burn injuries at half past midnight, they said.
Wani, along with his son Jasir Bilal, was picked up by the police for questioning in the terror module case. While Wani was later released, his son remains in custody for further questioning, they said.
Wani was a neighbour of Dr Muzaffar Rather, who has emerged as a key accused in the “white-collar terror module” case.
While Muzaffar is believed to be somewhere in Afghanistan, his younger brother, Dr Adeel Rather, was arrested in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on November 6.
The blast at New Delhi’s Red Fort left 12 people dead, while a subsequent explosion in seized explosives at Srinagar’s Nowgam Police Station killed ten people, including police personnel and an officer from civil administration.
A total of 23 people have lost their lives, while more than 52 people have suffered injuries in New Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir since November 10.
