The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday questioned Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam for about 9 hours. The minister reached ED’s Zonal office at 10.43 am and came out at around 8:30 pm.
Talking to media persons the minister said that they are law-abiding citizens and that was why he appeared without any delays to the ED. After the questioning, Alam said he answered all the questions that the ED officials asked.
The Minister has been asked to come for questioning at the ED office again on Wednesday.
Notably, on May 6, 2024, ED raided the premises of Alam’s official PS Sanjeev Lal, Lal's servant Jahangir Alam and others. During the raid, crores of rupees were recovered from the house of Lal's servant.
Besides, ED also seized lakhs of rupees from Sanjeev's house. About Rs 35 crore in cash and jewellery were recovered from the house of Sanjeev's servant Jahangir.
Later on May 7, ED arrested Sanjeev Lal and his servant. At present, both are on ED's remand and interrogation is being done at the ED office.
It is being said that Sanjeev Lal and Jagangir have made many revelations during the interrogation.
Seventy-year-old Congress leader Alamgir Alam is the Rural Development Minister in Jharkhand and represents the Pakur seat in the State assembly.
The raid was in connection with the ongoing investigation in a money laundering case against former Jharkhand Rural Development Department chief engineer Virendra Kumar Ram, who was arrested last year.
