On Tuesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a series of raids across Punjab, targeting the residence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh, as well as various locations linked to him.
The raids are part of an ongoing investigation into a money laundering case. ED teams from the Delhi unit, in coordination with local police, began their search at Singh's expansive residence in the Janta Land Promoters Limited (JLPL) area in Mohali, a real estate company owned by Singh.
Although Singh was not present at the property during the operation, his family members were reportedly questioned by the ED team.
In addition to Singh’s residence, the ED was conducting parallel searches at multiple other locations across Punjab that are associated with the MLA.

These raids were still ongoing at the time of reporting. According to ED sources, the investigations are connected to the Pearl Agrotech Corporation Limited (PACL) case, where the company’s directors are accused of misappropriating funds from investors.

The funds were allegedly transferred to shell companies located in various areas, and after being withdrawn in cash, were handed over to PACL associates before being routed to foreign companies via hawala for property purchases.
Kulwant Singh, who is said to be one of Punjab's wealthiest MLAs with assets worth an estimated Rs 1,000 crore, was previously questioned by the ED's Jalandhar unit in connection with a money laundering case related to alleged drug trafficking.
Singh, who joined the AAP in December 2021, won the 2022 Assembly elections from Mohali. Prior to his association with the AAP, he had a significant political career. In 2015, he became the first mayor of the Mohali Municipal Corporation with Congress’s support.
However, Singh switched allegiance to the Shiromani Akali Dal in 2017. His tenure with the party ended when he was expelled for “anti-party activities” after he unsuccessfully contested the 2021 civic elections as an independent candidate.
