Three terrorists were killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in the Nader area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Awantipora on Thursday, the Indian Army said. The identities of the terrorists are yet to be ascertained.
The Chinar Corps, in a post on their official ‘X’ handle, stated, “Three hardcore terrorists have been eliminated in the ongoing operation at Nader, Awantipora. Identity of terrorists is being ascertained.”
The operation was launched in the morning based on a specific intelligence input from an intelligence agency, involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
“On 15 May 2025, based on specific intelligence input from an intelligence agency, a Cordon and Search Operation was launched by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF at Nader, Tral, Awantipora. Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops, and on being challenged, terrorists opened heavy fire, leading to a fierce gunfight,” the Chinar Corps said in a separate ‘X’ post.
The operation follows a series of intensified anti-terror efforts by the Indian armed forces after the devastating Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives, including a Nepali national.

Earlier this week, security forces neutralised three terrorists, including a local commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba/The Resistance Front (LeT/TRF), in a joint operation in the Keller Forest area of Shopian district. The forces recovered AK-series rifles, a large quantity of ammunition, grenades, and other war-like stores during the operation.
The TRF, a Pakistan-backed outfit aligned with Lashkar-e-Taiba, has been designated as a terrorist organisation in India. It is believed to be responsible for the recent Pahalgam attack.
The recent operations come amid heightened tensions in the region, following India’s highly successful Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), eliminating nearly 100 terrorists. Among the major targets were the headquarters of Jaish in Bahawalpur and a key Lashkar training base in Muridke.
The TRF, which claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack, remains a significant threat to security in the region.
