The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday conducted searches in the twin districts of South Kashmir’s Shopian and Pulwama in an ongoing investigation into an alleged date-of-birth manipulation case aimed at securing undue service benefits.
As per investigators, the searches were carried out after the registration of an FIR under relevant sections of law pertaining to the alleged fraudulent insertion and alteration of date-of-birth entries in official service records.
According to officials, teams of the EOW searched the office of the Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO), Shopian, and later conducted searches at his residence in the Thamuna area of Pulwama district. The operation was carried out following proper legal procedures and in the presence of independent witnesses.
Documents and other material related to the case have been seized and are being scrutinised to ascertain the extent of the alleged irregularities and identify those involved.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch Kashmir has urged members of the public to remain cautious against economic offences and report any instances of fraud to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir.
