Bringing to light the apparent inconvenience faced by people in his home state, former two-time Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda minces no words when he claims Haryana is not run by the BJP, but a portal whose server is always down.
From students to job applicants and beneficiaries, every section of the society is troubled, the 77-year-old lamented.
Crediting his party, Congress, for initiating online services for public welfare, the party veteran said the entire purpose of going online was to ensure that government facilities – including the Panchayats – could be accessed with a single click. “The BJP turned the entire system of these online services upside down. People have to make rounds of government offices even to get online work done,” he said.
With students across the state all set to apply for the new session in colleges and universities, Hooda said the crashing of the Saral portal and its 300 services has put their careers in jeopardy.
“Lakhs of youth are racking their brains every day to apply for CET, but no solution is coming out,” he said.
Asking that CET Haryana extend the deadlines for admissions to colleges and universities, the former CM complained that students have been left helpless and looking for solutions.
It’s been almost a week now since services for applications ranging from marriage, income, birth, death, caste, domicile certificates and housing schemes have been completely shut down, reminded Hooda.
“It is surprising that people are being asked for death certificates of their living parents to get caste certificates,” he added.
It’s not the first time that the public has had to face such problems due to poor programming and server error portals, Hooda claimed.
“Earlier, such errors have been continuously coming to the fore in all online services ranging from family identity cards. The state of errors is to such an extent that fraud was found in more than 90% of the family identity cards. People had to make rounds of government departments for many months but these glitches could not be removed till date,” he added.
Not only should online services be fixed as soon as possible, he says, the government should also investigate the reasons for these glitches.
“Action should be taken against the culprits who created this system that has troubled lakhs of people and scammed crores of rupees,” he demanded.
