Ex-husband seeks kids' custody after Russian woman found in cave

Dror Goldstein mentioned that he had met Nina Kutina in Goa sometime in 2017 and they had been together, moving between India and Ukraine, until they broke up.

News Arena Network - Bengaluru - UPDATED: July 18, 2025, 05:54 PM - 2 min read

Dror Goldstein, 38, who claimed to spend almost six months a year in Goa, claimed he had been staying apart from Kutina, 40, for the past two years

Days after Russian woman Nina Kutina was arrested for residing in a cave deep within the woods in Karnataka's Gokarna with her two daughters, her former husband and father of her two daughters, an Israeli citizen, is asking for joint custody of her daughters, claiming he wants to become a father to them.

"I would just like to be able to see my daughters every few days and look after them, as well. My fear is that if they leave for Russia now, it will become increasingly difficult to stay in contact with them. I wish they could remain in India," Goldstein told the media, who had reported them missing last November.

Dror Goldstein, 38, who claimed to spend almost six months a year in Goa, claimed he had been staying apart from Kutina, 40, for the past two years and that he "lost touch" with them when she took the daughters and left Goa a few months ago.

"I was able to locate them on a beach in Gokarna, but Kutina forbade me from being with my children since I no longer live with them," further added Goldstein.

He mentioned that he had met Kutina in Goa sometime in 2017 and they had been together, moving between India and Ukraine, until they broke up. "When I learned of the news, I booked a ticket to Bengaluru to be able to meet them," added Goldstein.

He said that Kutina desires to bring up the children by herself. "She told me right in the beginning itself that if I don't stay in the same home, I should not be in contact with them at all," alleged Goldstein.

At the same time, Kutina has alleged of being left in an awkward position. She has also spoken about the ashes of her son who died nine months back being snatched from her. Bidding goodbye to her experience in forest located close to Gokarna as peaceful and satisfying, complete with nature, meditation, and art, she has claimed that everything that appears on TV about them is untrue.

"We are being kept in an awkward position. It's not clean, there is no privacy, and only plain rice is being given to eat. Many of our stuff was confiscated, even the remains of my son who died nine months ago," Kutina said.

"Everything being highlighted on TV regarding us is not true. I have videos and pictures that depict how clean and joyful our life used to be," she further added.

We would wake up at dawn, swim in rivers and live in nature. I used to cook on a fire or gas cylinder as per season, and shopped from a village nearby. We painted, sang songs, read books, and lived in peace," she said about her life in forest.

Kutina also had another son from a former relationship who passed away last October. As per the complaint Goldstein submitted, the boy's death was due to an accident.

Nina Kutina also spoke of her son's death in an interview with journalists as she was being rescued by the authorities from the cave earlier this week. She explained that her son's death was the reason of her overstay in India. She claimed that the authorities have discovered her old passport, and her present visa expired about the time when her son died.
