With the West Bengal Assembly elections just 8–9 months away, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has effectively begun sketching the roadmap for her party’s campaign. On Tuesday, a day after addressing a political rally, the Trinamool Congress supremo announced a massive grassroots governance initiative —"Amader Para Amader Samadhan (Our Locality, Our Solution)" — which she claims is the first of its kind in the country.

The new scheme, aimed at addressing hyper-local civic issues directly through government camps, will roll out across the state from August 2. The state government has allocated ₹8,000 crore for the program, which is set to be completed within 60 days, excluding breaks during the Durga Puja season.

Under the scheme, one-day camps will be held across clusters of three polling booths in every neighbourhood, where citizens can report issues themselves — digitally and transparently. Mamata emphasised that the initiative is meant to ensure that “no one needs to reach out to the government — the government will reach out to them.”

She explained that local problems, such as the need for a water tap, a small road or basic infrastructure, can be submitted to officials at these camps. Each approved project will be allocated up to ₹10 lakh for swift execution. “Government officials will personally listen to the villagers’ concerns and act accordingly,” she said.

The Chief Minister announced that a statewide task force, led by Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, will oversee implementation. Members of the task force will be drawn from multiple departments, particularly those experienced in handling local development works. Their mandate will be monitoring, planning, and evaluating on-ground execution in real time.

The program aims to reach all 80,000 polling booths across West Bengal. “From identifying issues to implementing solutions, the entire process will be completed in two months,” Mamata assured.

Taking a veiled jab at the Centre, Mamata Banerjee questioned the effectiveness of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) campaign. “The Prime Minister talks about self-reliance, but nothing has been achieved in practice. We are delivering where it matters,” she said, asserting that the state government has successfully completed most of its previously announced schemes, including Duare Sarkar (government is at door-step).

Political observers believe this new initiative could play a crucial role in mobilising grassroots support ahead of the 2026 elections, especially in rural and semi-urban areas where localised issues often shape voting behaviour.
