Following the tragic electrocution of a 13-year-old student, the Kerala government has laid the foundation stone for a new house for the victim's family in Kollam. General Education Minister V Sivankutty led the ceremony on Sunday for the family of Mithun, a student of Thevalakkara Boys High School, who died last month after touching a live electric wire on the school grounds.
The new 1,000 sq ft home will be constructed in the same area where the family currently resides. Reports suggest that the house will feature three bedrooms with other essential amenities.
And, it will reportedly cost ₹20 lakh. The government is proceeding with an aim to finish construction and hand over the keys within four months.

In addition to the new house, the family will receive a total of ₹34 lakh in financial assistance. This includes ₹10 lakh each from both the state government and the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), ₹11 lakh from the Kerala School Teachers’ Association (KSTA), and ₹3 lakh from the General Education Department.
The department has also pledged to cover all educational expenses for Mithun’s brother. The move comes after significant criticism from opposition parties regarding the handling of the incident.
