The detention of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal by the Punjab Police has sparked a fresh wave of protests, with farmers gathering at the Khanauri border.
A high-level meeting between farmer representatives and officials, including DIG Manjit Singh Sandhu, SSP Nanak Singh, and intelligence officers, ended without a solution.
Farmers have made it clear that talks will not continue unless Dallewal is released and joins the protest.
Farmer leaders, such as Kaka Singh Kotda, have stated that the protest will not end until their demands are met. They have announced a "death fast" plan, where if any leader dies during the protest, another will take their place.
This strategy gives the government 10 days to respond, or the farmers will march to Delhi on December 6.
The Punjab Police, however, defend their actions, citing concerns about Dallewal’s health and age, as well as the potential risks of his indefinite strike.
DIG Mandeep Singh Sidhu mentioned that Dallewal was taken to Ludhiana's DMC Hospital for medical check-ups, but there has been no update on his condition, prompting accusations of human rights violations from farmer groups.
The farmers are also insisting on a foot march to Delhi rather than using tractors. Protest leaders are urging large-scale mobilisation to prepare for any future actions by the police.
