Marking their first mahapanchayat in Rajasthan's Ratanpura on February 11, the farmer unions have announced to carry out a big protest. The strike is being planned to boost momentum at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders, which slowed down in the past few days.

The event, marking the first mahapanchayat, will be followed by the second, and third at Khanauri on February 12 and Shambhu on February 13. To encourage maximum participation, farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal who is on fast-unto-death will address the farmers via video-conferencing.

Although activity at Shambhu remains steady, Khanauri has seen relative calm since the visit of Priya Ranjan, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare on January 18, who met with Dallewal and extended an invitation to farm leaders for discussions in Chandigarh on February 14 to address their long-standing demands, including MSP.

Representatives from the SKM (Non-Political) and the KMM will participate in the upcoming talks where as Dallewal has refused to be part of the meeting, citing his health as the reason.

SKM leaders Kaka Singh Kotra and Abhimanyu Kohar have urged farmers to continue maintaining pressure on the Centre.

"If we become casual and start thinking that talks have been initiated, the outcome of our agitation will be different. We must keep mounting the pressure," said Kohar.
