Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah expressed concern over the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh, calling for mutual respect and tolerance among religions in the country.
He criticised the central government for its inaction on the issue.
“It is very wrong, as people from other religions also reside there. They should also respect people from other religions. The central government is doing nothing,” Abdullah said.
He also highlighted the atrocities being committed against Muslims in Uttar Pradesh.
“Atrocities are being committed against Muslims in UP. Their mosques and homes are being demolished,” he added.
Abdullah's comments came after reports of killings of Hindus and the burning of temples in Bangladesh. Protests against these atrocities erupted across the country, including in Navi Mumbai, where the Hindu community took to the streets.
The All India Karni Sena, along with the Hindu Mahasabha, organised a silent march to protest the atrocities and the vandalism of temples in Aligarh.
Several Hindu groups also held demonstrations in Jammu and Kashmir, expressing dissatisfaction over the “wrongful actions” against minorities. Protests were held by minorities in Srinagar, while the Sanatan Dharma Sabha organised a demonstration in Poonch.
