Jammu and Kashmir National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference chief Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Monday expressed strong criticism of the Central Government for purposely delaying the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a right, not a favour.

Voices demanding statehood for Jammu and Kashmir have notably increased after Omar Abdullah raised his demands during the launch of the Vande Bharat Express rail link connecting Jammu to Srinagar on June 6.

Speaking during the party event here in Srinagar, Abdullah said, “Statehood is the right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. It is not a dole to be handed out at someone’s whim.”

Abdullah also questioned certain media outlets for spreading “lies” about the statehood restoration to Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah announced the creation of the Human Rights Wing of the party within the existing structure.

The particulars about this wing will be made public in the coming days, and it will be headed by the Retired Justice Hasnain Masoodi and will have two more members.

On the Iran-Israel conflict, Abdullah criticised the Sunni majority states in the region for reconsidering their allegiance with the pro-Israel US regime for waging an unjust war on Iran, which is fighting alone against the mighty powers of the world.

“He said the Sunni Muslim countries are against Iran today, but they need to remember Israel with America are coming for them too, for their resources, including Gas and oil.”

This is not about Iran being a “Shia country” or the US trying to force regime change, rather an exploitation, he warned.
