In a tragic incident on Tuesday morning, three members of a family — a father and his two children — lost their lives after a fire engulfed a multi-storied apartment building in Sector 13 of Dwarka, Delhi.
The fire broke out around 10 am on the top floors of the building. In a desperate attempt to escape the blaze, two children — a 10-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl — jumped off the seventh-floor balcony. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
Two 10-year-old boys and girls were pronounced dead at Aakash Hospital after they leaped from the balcony to rescue themselves. Their 35-year-old father, Yash Yadav, also died at IGI Hospital after jumping from the balcony. Yadav worked on the flex board company. After surviving the fire, Yadav's wife and older kid were sent to IGI Hospital for medical treatment. People were observed shattering windows on the sixth storey.
"Those on the lower floors were able to leave the area promptly. Higher-ups, however, had a terrifying experience. A witness said, "We observed some occupants attempting to scale balconies and call for assistance." Shapath Society's whole population has been evacuated. To prevent any further accidents, the gas and electricity connections have been turned off for the time being.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) have been notified to evaluate the structural stability. The cause of the fire remains unclear.
