The Mohali Police recently handed over a copy of the FIR registered against Partap Singh Bajwa, the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, to his legal team. Bajwa had previously filed a petition in a Mohali court requesting the FIR’s copy, following which the court directed the police to release it to him.
The FIR was lodged based on the statement of Constable Taranpreet Kaur, a social media operator assigned to the Cyber Crime Social Media Cell of Mohali.
According to the FIR, Kaur was performing her routine cyber monitoring duties when she came across a Facebook post featuring an interview with Bajwa. In the interview, Bajwa claimed that 50 grenades had arrived in Punjab, of which 18 had already been used, and 32 remained to be detonated across the state.

The FIR further stated that Bajwa failed to disclose the source of this information or the potential targets of the grenades. The police allege that his statement was intended to disturb public peace and create a sense of fear and discord among various communities.
The police contend that the interview was deliberately designed to stir unrest by spreading false and misleading information, thereby jeopardising public order, unity, and integrity.
Earlier, Bajwa had been asked to appear before the police after the FIR was filed against him on the grounds of his statements regarding the grenades. However, he did not receive a copy of the FIR.
In response, Bajwa filed a petition through his lawyers, demanding the document, leading to the court’s order for the police to provide the copy and upload it on their website.
