Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested five suspected drug peddlers in Anantnag district of South Kashmir on Friday and recovered substantial quantities of contraband substances from them. The arrests were made under the ongoing 30-day Nasha Mukht J&K Abhiyan launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
“Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking, Anantnag Police has achieved multiple successes across the district, leading to the registration of four NDPS cases and the arrest of five accused persons,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
The arrested accused have been identified as:
Aqib Nissar Rangraze of Anantnag and Umar Yousuf Mahroo of Kishtwar were caught while trying to flee a naka checking party in a Maruti Suzuki Fronx. Police recovered 13.36 grams of a heroin-like substance. A case was registered at Kokernag Police Station.
Rameez Bashir Bhat of Tilwangund was arrested near Mehmoodabad Bridge by a team from Police Station Dooru. Police seized 2.65 grams of a heroin-like substance.
Sabzar Ahmad Sofi of Hallan was arrested at Gutligund (Verinag) with 92 grams of charas powder and 20 grams of charas. Adil Ahmad Sheikh of Larnoo was caught by Police Station Larnoo at Khrety Lovlupora with 2.300 kilograms of ganja and 18 grams of charas.
All five arrested individuals have been sent to judicial custody, and further investigation is underway.
