At least five people were killed and another critically injured when a private passenger vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a 600-foot-deep gorge in J&K’s Ramban district, an official confirmed on Saturday.
The accident took place near Senabathi in the UkhralPogalParistan area late Friday night, they said. The deceased was identified as Tauqeer Ahmad (20) on the spot, while five other critically injured people were rushed to a hospital, but three of them, Mohd Rafiq (40), Abdul Lateef (40), and Aijaz Ahmad (20), succumbed to their injuries en route to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the fifth victim, Shakeel Ahmad (24), died today, while the remaining passenger, Yawar Ahmad (25), is said to be in critical condition. LG Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union minister Jitendra Singh expressed grief over the loss of life and assured support to families of victims.

Further to compensate the losses, the Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan has announced an assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 25,000 to the injured one.
Shortly after the horrific incident took place, DC Ramban, in his post on X, said, “All possible support is being extended to the affected families.”
Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha also expressed his solidarity with the victims of the SUV crash, saying, “Saddened to learn about the loss of lives due to the tragic road accident in Ramban.
In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for a speedy recovery of those injured in the accident.”
