Flight Lieutenant Arshveer Singh Thakur, from Jakhol village in Jubbal, Shimla district, has been awarded the Vir Chakra, the nation’s third-highest gallantry honour, by the Government of India for his extraordinary courage during Operation Sindoor.
Arshveer played a key role in the mission that struck and destroyed terrorist bases in Bahawalpur and Muridke, Pakistan. His actions dealt a major blow to terrorist networks and highlighted India’s strategic strength on the world stage. He is the only officer of the Flight Lieutenant rank to receive the Vir Chakra for this operation. His bravery reflects not only his own courage but also the skill, training, and determination of the Indian Air Force.
Arshveer grew up in a family rooted in sports and discipline. His father, Narveer Singh Thakur, is a retired officer of the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board and an accomplished volleyball and cricket player as well as a coach. His mother, Amarjeet Kaur, is a physical education teacher in a government school in Shimla and a volleyball coach. This upbringing inspired Arshveer’s drive for excellence from an early age.
The announcement of his award has brought immense pride and joy to Himachal Pradesh. People across the state see his courage as an inspiration for future generations. Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur congratulated him, saying that Himachal is the birthplace of many heroes and Arshveer’s valour is a moment of great pride for the state.
This honour is not just a personal achievement for Arshveer but a proud moment for the entire nation, reminding us that our soldiers are always ready to go to any length to protect the country.
