As part of the ongoing Maha Kumbh, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday showered flower petals on saints and seers during the sacred ‘Amrit Snan’ at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on the occasion of Basant Panchami.
Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Avdheshanand Giri Maharaj of Juna Akhara lauded the state government for its arrangements at the mega event. “It is because of PM Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath that today’s ‘Amrit Snan’ has been possible,” he said.
Swami Avdheshanand Giri, while preparing for the ritual, added, “I am going for the ‘Amrit Snan’. I will take a holy dip for the welfare of the public... We all are one.”
Following the dip, Swami Bhavendra Giri of Panchayati Akhada Shri Niranjani, also present at the event, offered prayers for the welfare of the world.
“I extend best wishes to everyone on the occasion of Basant Panchami. This is a very sacred place, as here is the sacred confluence of three rivers – Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati... I prayed for the welfare of the world,” he remarked.
By 8 am on Monday, the Uttar Pradesh Information Department confirmed that over 62.25 lakh devotees had taken part in the holy dip, marking the third 'Amrit Snan' of the Maha Kumbh Mela.

The sacred bathing ritual commenced with the Naga Sadhus’ immersion at the ghats, an important part of the ongoing Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj.
As of February 3, the number of devotees taking part in the ritual has surpassed 340 million (34 crore), with over 1 million Kalpwasis – devotees observing month-long spiritual austerities – contributing to the immense spiritual fervour.
Basant Panchami holds great significance, as it is believed that Goddess Saraswati was born on this day. Bathing in the Ganga on this auspicious occasion is considered especially sacred.
To ensure a smooth and safe experience for devotees, the Kumbh Command and Control Centre is closely monitoring all operations.
The centre oversees 25 sectors, 30 pontoon bridges, and sensitive barricades, with more than 3,000 CCTV cameras covering both the city and Mela areas.
The Maha Kumbh 2025, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26. The event has already drawn millions of devotees from across the world, with expectations of record-breaking attendance and participation.
