The son of a BJP MLA and eight others had been booked in connection with the incident wherein a group of people forcibly entered the famous Mata Tekri temple in Dewas after it had closed, the Madhya Pradesh police said on Tuesday.
A CCTV footage of the temple premises went viral on social media after the incident that happened last week came into light. The opposition Congress had stated that Rudraksh Shukla, son of Golu Shukla, the BJP MLA from Indore-3 assembly seat, was involved in the incident.
Rudraksh Shukla was one of the eight more people whose names had been added in the FIR on Monday night, the official said.
Earlier, the police have claimed that a group of people in a fleet of SUVs forcibly stormed into the temple premises on the intervening night of April 11-12 after the temple was closed for the night. The group had also allegedly beat up its priest after he refused to let them in the shrine.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jaiveer Bhadoriya told mediapersons that a case of rash driving was registered in this incident on April 13.
The CCTV footage was reviewed during the inquiry, and statements of the complainant and others were recorded, he said, adding that four out of seven vehicles have been seized by the police.
The ASP said Jitu Raghuvanshi was named in the FIR on the first day, while the names of Rudraksh Shukla, Aman, Lokesh, Manish, Aniruddha, Honey, Sachin and Prashant were added on Monday.
A fleet of SUVs, including a few with red lights, were seen entering the temple premises on a hill in Dewas in a footage of the incident that went viral on social media.
