Security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district have uncovered a significant cache of firearms and explosives from two Maoist hideouts, police said on Sunday.
The operation, based on intelligence inputs, was conducted by teams from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), its specialised CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) unit, and the district police force.
The first Maoist dump was located on a forested hill near Markanguda village, close to the Duled security camp, while the second was unearthed in a forest near a newly established security camp at Mettaguda village.
During the searches, security personnel recovered a range of weapons, including six single-barrel muzzle-loading rifles, two 12-bore rifles, and a country-made rifle. Additionally, they seized 20 live shells of a barrel grenade launcher (BGL), 12 detonators, gunpowder, splinters, cordex wires, safety fuses, a country-made bomb, and 80 pieces of iron angles.
Equipment used for manufacturing BGL shells, along with a Maoist uniform and various other materials, were also found.
Authorities believe the stockpile was part of a planned offensive by Maoists against security forces conducting patrolling operations in the region. The seizure marks another success in ongoing anti-Maoist operations aimed at weakening insurgent networks in Chhattisgarh.
