Former Congress MLA Bambar Thakur was shot at by unidentified attackers at his residence in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, during Holi celebrations on Friday. Both Thakur and his personal security officer (PSO) were seriously injured in the attack.
According to police reports, the assailants fired 12 rounds before fleeing the scene. Thakur was hit in the stomach and back, while his PSO also sustained severe injuries.
Following the attack, Thakur was immediately taken to Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla for treatment, while his PSO was rushed to AIIMS Bilaspur for medical care. Authorities are investigating the incident and searching for those responsible.
This is not the first time Thakur has been targeted. In February 2024, he was attacked near Nauni on the outskirts of Bilaspur and suffered serious injuries, reportedly following a scuffle with railway contractors. Later, in June 2024, his son was allegedly involved in a firing incident against one of the accused in that case inside a court complex.
The latest attack has raised concerns about security in the region, and police are working to determine the motive behind the shooting and identify the attackers.
