The Bengaluru police have initiated legal proceedings under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) against former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior BJP leader B S Yediyurappa. This action follows allegations that he harassed a minor at his residence in the city.
According to the complaint filed by the victim's mother, the incident occurred on February 2 when the woman visited Yediyurappa’s residence seeking justice in her daughter's rape case and urging him to establish a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
The complaint further alleges that Yediyurappa took the child to a room, where he allegedly sexually harassed her for about five minutes before returning. When questioned about his actions, Yediyurappa purportedly claimed that he was checking if the girl had been assaulted. He then reportedly apologised and advised against disclosing the incident to others.
The Sadashivanagar police have registered a case against Yediyurappa under Section 8 (sexual assault) of the POCSO Act and Section 354 (a) (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
