The Meteorological Department in Srinagar has issued a weather advisory predicting another spell of rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir from March 1-12.
According to the latest forecasts, March 1-2 is expected to be generally cloudy, with light rain and snow at isolated places during the late night of March 2.
March 3 is predicted to witness light to moderate rain and snowfall at most places, with some higher reaches in North and Central Kashmir possibly receiving moderate to heavy snowfall.
The weather is expected to remain dry from March 4-9, followed by a fresh spell of rain and snowfall from March 10-12.
As per official statistics, “The ongoing wet spell in J&K has lowered the rainfall deficit to 42 per cent from the previous 89 per cent, bringing much-needed relief to the local population, especially among the farming community.”

Tourists, travellers, and transporters are advised to follow administrative and traffic advisories. Farmers have been urged to suspend irrigation and other farming activities until March 4.
Landslides and shooting stones are expected at vulnerable locations. Residents have been advised to avoid steep slopes and avalanche-prone areas, and to adhere to the Directorate General of Relief and Emergency’s avalanche warnings and bulletins.
Earlier, continuous rain and snowfall triggered snow avalanches in North Kashmir’s Bandipora, causing destruction to several structures and forcing residents to flee to safer locations.
Another avalanche occurred in the upper reaches of Gulmarg, a popular tourist destination; however, no loss of life was reported in the incident.
Authorities have urged travellers and adventure enthusiasts visiting tourist destinations to exercise caution, as fresh snow accumulation may pose risks.
Additionally, three people have lost their lives, and three others sustained serious injuries due to weather-related incidents across Jammu and Kashmir.
