The Punjab Police on Sunday arrested a gangster in an intelligence-led operation and recovered a cache of sophisticated weapons, narcotics, and ammunition from his possession.
The arrested individual has been identified as Hardeep Singh, alias Deepa, a resident of Ghall Khurd village in Ferozepur.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav shared details of the operation in a post on X, stating, "In an intelligence-based operation, Counter Intelligence Ferozepur apprehended smuggler-cum-gangster Hardeep Singh and recovered a sophisticated arsenal along with narcotics."
The police recovered three advanced firearms, including a Glock pistol, a Beretta .30mm pistol, and a pump-action gun. Additionally, 141 rounds of assorted ammunition—comprising 9mm, .30 caliber, and 12-bore cartridges—were seized. Authorities also confiscated 45 grams of heroin and a car from the accused.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the weapons were smuggled from across the border and were intended for use in terrorist and criminal activities, the DGP stated.
A case has been registered in Fazilka, and further investigation is underway to uncover potential links to cross-border smuggling networks and organised crime.
