Punjabi actor and singer Gippy Grewal, whose real name is Rupinder Singh Grewal, has allegedly received a threat call from a foreign-based gangster.
According to sources, gangster Goldy Brar called Grewal and threatened him for not responding to his repeated calls. A purported audio recording of the call has gone viral on social media.
In the audio clip, the caller is heard warning the 43-year-old singer not to ignore his messages, saying messages can be ignored but not bullets, and also threatening to attack his house in Mohali.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal alleged that Grewal received the threat soon after his security was withdrawn. “Disturbed to learn that our superstar Gippy Grewal received a threat from notorious gangster Goldy Brar — right after CM Bhagwant Mann withdrew his security cover, just because he came to meet me at my Badal residence recently!” Sukhbir posted on X.
Senior police officials did not comment on the incident and only said that the matter is under investigation.
Sukhbir Badal also alleged that law and order in the state has completely collapsed and that security decisions are being taken on the Chief Minister’s discretion. “We already lost one of our best singers, Sidhu Moosewala, due to Bhagwant’s disastrous decision to withdraw his security and leak it to the media,” he said.
The singer has faced threats from gangsters in the past as well. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang had claimed responsibility for gunshots fired outside Grewal’s residence in Vancouver’s White Rock area on November 25, 2023. Earlier, in December 2019, he had also got an extortion call from gangster Dilpreet Dahan. His recently released film “Akaal: The Unconquered” has also allegedly hurt religious sentiments.
