Girls dominated the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) class 12 examinations this year, clinching the top three ranks as the results were declared on Wednesday.
Harsirat Kaur, a student of Sarvhitkari Senior Secondary Vidya Mandir, Barnala, topped the exam with a perfect score of 500 out of 500, PSEB Chairman Amarpal Singh announced. She was followed by Manveer Kaur of S S Memorial Senior Secondary Public School, Ferozepur, who secured second position with 498 marks, followed by Arsh of Shri Tara Chand Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School in Mansa in third place with identical marks.
A total of 2,65,388 students appeared for the exams, out of which 2,41,506 passed, marking an overall pass percentage of 91 per cent.
Girls outperformed boys with a pass percentage of 94.32 per cent, compared to 88.08 per cent for boys. The performance in rural areas (91.20 per cent) slightly edged out urban areas (90.74 per cent).
In terms of school types, non-government schools recorded the highest pass rate at 92.47 per cent, followed by government schools (91.01 per cent), and aided schools (86.86 per cent).
Among academic streams, the science stream led with a 98.52% pass rate, followed by commerce (96.83 per cent), vocational courses (90 per cent), and humanities (87.58 per cent).
District-wise, Amritsar recorded the highest pass percentage at 96.29 per cent, followed by Gurdaspur (95.84 per cent), Pathankot (94.21 per cent), and Kapurthala (94.01 per cent).
