After heavy snowfall in Bharmour subdivision of Himachal Pradesh, a glacier collapsed late last night and fell onto the Ot Nala area of Pulan Panchayat. This caused damage to vehicles and shops and created panic among local residents.

Officials stated that the glacier fell around 1:30 am, hitting two pick-up jeeps and three roadside shops. Luckily, no one was hurt because the drivers had parked the vehicles and gone home earlier in the evening.

The two pick-ups, with registration numbers HP-38F-7066 and HP-73-8462, were carrying goods from Bharmour and were parked near Ot Nala. The glacier’s collapse pushed both vehicles and their goods into a deep ravine. So far, the vehicles have not been found.

Three shops owned by Ghadlo Devi, wife of Jaihari Ram from Pulan village, were badly damaged. One of the buried pick-up trucks belonged to her, and the other belonged to Bunty, also from Pulan village.

Immediately after the incident, teams from the local administration and police arrived at the spot. They started search and assessment work to find the buried vehicles and check the damage.

Pulan Panchayat chief Anita Kapoor confirmed the incident. She said she went to the incident site to assess the situation and help coordinate relief work.
Villagers said a glacier this large had not collapsed in their area for nearly 50 years. The event caused fear and anxiety among the people.

The incident happened after very heavy snowfall in the region. The area got 3 to 4 feet of snow on January 23 and 24, and more than two feet of fresh snow fell last night when the glacier collapsed.

Authorities have warned residents to be careful. They said unstable snow and glacier conditions in the high mountains still pose risks.
