The dispute over the resignation of SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami has been resolved, as he announced that he would resume his role in the next three to four days.
This decision came after a meeting with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal, who visited Dhami at his residence. The SGPC Executive Committee had previously rejected Dhami’s resignation on Monday, following which committee members met him to discuss the matter.
Dhami had assured them that a final decision would be taken soon. After discussions with senior SAD leaders, he has now withdrawn his resignation and will continue as the SGPC president.
The SGPC working committee had actively attempted to persuade Dhami to reconsider his decision, emphasising the need for stable leadership ahead of the upcoming budget session scheduled for March 28.
According to the Gurdwara Act, the SGPC president must preside over the session, making Dhami’s continuation in office crucial at this juncture.
