Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has instructed all departments to accelerate and complete ongoing short-term infrastructure projects ahead of the monsoon season. Chairing a high-level meeting with senior officials, CM Saini emphasised that any negligence in meeting the deadlines would not be tolerated.
A special focus was placed on cleaning and desilting drains, minors, and riverbeds, including the Saraswati, Markanda, and Tangri rivers, to ensure smooth water flow and avoid urban flooding. Officials were also directed to immediately remove water hyacinth and conduct inspections of all dams for needed repairs.
CM Saini stressed the urgency of these projects and asked that they be closely monitored by local representatives and Deputy Commissioners. He also ordered a survey of all water channels (khaals) older than 20 years to plan their cleaning and maintenance.
In an effort to protect the Yamuna River from pollution, the Chief Minister mandated that no untreated or industrial waste be allowed to flow into the river. He further directed the establishment of Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) in affected cities and encouraged the reuse of treated water for irrigation.
Additionally, CM Saini called for the strengthening of rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge systems before the monsoon to support water conservation efforts.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the Haryana State Drought Relief and Flood Control Board had approved 209 short-term projects worth ₹282 crore, of which 103 are currently in progress. Drain cleaning across the state is set to be completed by June 30.
Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Chief Principal Secretary to CM Rajesh Khullar, and senior officials from the Urban Local Bodies and Public Health Engineering departments were present in the meeting.
