The body of a 22-year-old woman, identified as Congress worker Himani Narwal, was found stuffed in a suitcase near the Sampla bus stand on the Rohtak-Delhi highway on Saturday, triggering political outrage and calls for a swift investigation.
Police were alerted by commuters who noticed the abandoned suitcase, located approximately 200 metres from the bus stand. Upon arrival, officers opened the suitcase and discovered Narwal’s body, bearing visible injury marks on her neck, suggesting strangulation.
Rohtak police spokesperson Sunny Loura stated that forensic teams were summoned to the scene to collect evidence.
“We suspect she was killed elsewhere before being placed in the suitcase and dumped here. CCTV footage from the vicinity is being examined to determine when and by whom it was left at the spot,” he said.

Narwal, a native of Kathura village in Sonepat, was an active Congress worker who had participated in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Haryana.
She was also known for performing with Haryanvi folk artistes at Congress rallies and social events.
Sampla Police Station SHO Bijender Singh confirmed that an investigation was underway.
“We are checking the call details of the deceased and reviewing surveillance footage near the crime scene to establish leads,” he said.
Congress leaders expressed shock and condemnation over Narwal’s killing, demanding stringent action against the perpetrators.
Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra urged the Rohtak Superintendent of Police to form a special investigation team (SIT) to expedite the probe.
“The accused must face the strictest punishment,” he stated.

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda termed the murder a “blot on the state’s law and order” and called for an impartial, high-level inquiry.
“Haryana has become one of the most unsafe states for women, as reflected in crime data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and the Union Government’s Social Progress Index. The BJP government has failed miserably in ensuring security,” Hooda said.
He further claimed that the state records an alarming number of violent crimes daily, including multiple murders, rapes, and kidnappings. “The lawlessness resembles jungle raj,” he remarked.
Sampla SHO Bijender Singh stated that a case had been registered under sections 103(1) and 238(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on a complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Narender, who was on duty near the site.
Narender, in his complaint, said that while conducting routine vehicle checks, he and his colleagues noticed the suitcase nearly 80 metres from the Rohtak-Delhi highway in Sampla.
“When I unzipped the suitcase, I found a woman’s body with visible injury marks. We immediately informed our SHO and forensic experts. The body was then sent to PGIMS for post-mortem and identification,” he said.
Police have not yet identified any suspects.
However, efforts are underway to trace those responsible, with investigators examining the victim’s recent call records and analysing surveillance footage for potential leads.
Meanwhile, Narwal’s family has remained silent on the incident.
