It is day 2 of the government doctors protesting in Haryana.
Despite the government doctors’ strike continuing for a second day on Tuesday, healthcare services throughout the district mostly ran smoothly. There were initial concerns about widespread disruption, but the Outpatient Department (OPD), emergency, and essential services remained operational. The continuity was achieved by deploying staff from various sources, including doctors from Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC), retired physicians, NHM doctors, dental surgeons, and those from the Ayush department.
Nevertheless, long queues of patients were visible outside the OPDs.
Why are the doctors protesting?
There are two primary issues — the cessation of direct recruitment of Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) and the implementation of the Modified Assured Career Progression (ACP) structure — that have remained unresolved for 16 months, despite numerous appeals, as asserted by Dr. Sanjay Verma, district president of the Haryana Civil Medical Services Association (HCMSA).
"The government had approved these demands last year, but no notification was issued," Dr Verma explained.
"Even during recent meetings, the Minister acknowledged our concerns but failed to offer any firm assurance on resolving them,” he said.
