The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notices to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the state government in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking repairs and maintenance of two national highways riddled with potholes and measures to prevent cattle from sitting on roads.

The PIL demands that the NHAI, the Madhya Pradesh government, and the Public Works Department (PWD) take immediate steps to repair certain sections of NH-43 (Jabalpur-Gwalior via Sagar) and NH-45 (Jabalpur-Bhopal) and address the issue of cattle sitting on highways.
"Users are paying tolls on these highways, but proper maintenance is lacking," Tomar said, highlighting that potholes and cattle on roads have been causing accidents and obstructing traffic.
The petitioner cited news reports on the condition of these highways to back his claims. The next hearing is scheduled for 26 September.
