Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) has received relief from the double bench of the Himachal Pradesh High Court staying the single bench order to close 18 loss-making hotels run by the Corporation between 25 November 2024 and 31 March 2025.
A Division bench of the Himachal Pradesh High Court comprising Justice Vivek Singh Thakur and Justice Rakesh Kainthla said keeping with the timeline given by the Corporation for payment of dues and arrears of the employees, the Court is of the considered opinion that to avoid irreparable losses to the Corporation, the orders of the single bench on 19 November 2024 and 22 November 2024 to close the hotels shall remain stayed till further orders.
The HPTDC had pleaded before the double bench that the earlier orders of the single bench to close none hotels by 25 November 2024 and nine others by 31 March 2025 were not in the public interest.
The counsel for the Corporation pleaded that the hotels have bookings, sometimes more than six months, for events like weddings and other functions for which the interested parties pay in advance. Also, cancellation of bookings ahead of the peak season of tourism in HP would result in a loss of image and finances of tourism in Himachal.
