Heavy rain continued across several parts of Himachal Pradesh after overnight showers. Shimla woke up to thick fog on Tuesday, with poor visibility reported in many areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain in the next four hours in Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan and Una districts. Some areas may also receive isolated spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Authorities have asked people to stay alert as rainy conditions continue across the state. The IMD has also issued an orange alert for the next four days, forecasting heavy rain in several parts of Himachal Pradesh.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said in a post on X that continuous rain since Monday night had affected normal life in several districts.
"Continuous heavy rain since last night has disrupted normal life in different districts of the state. Reports have been received of debris and rainwater entering houses in Ovdi Mohalla in Chamba district. In Shimla and other areas, landslides and falling rocks have affected roads and disrupted transportation," Sukhu said.
He said the state government was keeping a close watch on the situation. Officials have also been directed to speed up road clearance, restoration work and relief and rescue efforts in affected areas.
"The government is closely monitoring the situation. I have received detailed updates from officials and instructed them to speed up road restoration, relief and rescue operations. All possible help should also be provided to affected families," he said.
Sukhu said the weather department had warned that adverse weather conditions could continue for the next few days.
"The meteorological department has forecast that bad weather may continue for the coming days. I appeal to everyone to stay away from rivers, streams and landslide-prone areas and follow all safety advisories issued by the administration," Sukhu said.
