Security forces on Saturday busted a terrorist hideout and seized a large cache of arms and ammunition in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the police said.
The operation comes just days after the terrorist attack near Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists.
Acting on a tip off, security forces launched a search operation in the forested area of Sedori Nala, Mushtaqabad Machil (Samsha Behak forest region) in north Kashmir, a police official said. During the operation, a terrorist hideout was successfully unearthed.
The seizure included five AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines, a pistol along with its magazine, 660 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, one pistol round, and 50 rounds of M4 ammunition, the official added.
Terming it a major success, the police said the recovery comes amid indications that terrorists were planning activities to disrupt peace and order in the region.
The timely action by security forces has dealt a significant blow to such nefarious designs, averting potential threats to civilian lives and public safety, officials said.
Earlier this week, 26 people were killed and several others injured when terrorists opened fire at a meadow near the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
