The local weather department has issued a red alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the districts of Mandi, Sirmaur, and Kangra on July 6 and 7 as the hill state continues to struggle with the ongoing rainfall.
Several cloudbursts and flash floods have recently struck Mandi, which is already among the most severely affected areas. In the last week, the district received an alarming 426 per cent more rainfall than usual, which resulted in extensive damage and disruption
To ensure public safety, an orange alert has also been sounded for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan, Shimla, and Kullu districts. The alert will be in force until July 9.
The weather department has also warned of potential risks like landslides, mudslides, flash floods, land subsidence, as well as flooding in river catchment areas. There is also a high risk of damage to standing crops and fruit orchards.
The authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert, avoid risky travel, and follow official advisories closely during this period of intense weather activity.
