Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday assured the Gaddi community that the state government is fully aware of their challenges and is committed to addressing their concerns.
Speaking to a delegation of the Gaddi community led by newly appointed Himachal Pradesh Wool Federation Chairman Manoj Kumar, the Chief Minister said the government is considering an increase in the minimum support price (MSP) for wool. A final decision will be taken after consulting all stakeholders, he added.
“Our government is determined to ensure that sheep and goat rearers receive fair and remunerative prices for their produce. This will not only benefit the Gaddi community but also help in strengthening the rural economy,” Sukhu said in an official statement.
He also highlighted the government’s sympathetic approach toward disaster relief, noting that compensation for livestock loss during the 2023 monsoon disaster had been significantly increased. Under a special relief package, financial assistance for the death of sheep, goats, and pigs was raised from ₹4,000 to ₹6,000 per animal.
He said in the coming times, this financial assistance would be further enhanced to support the livestock rearing community.
Manoj Kumar, expressing gratitude for his appointment, said it was a moment of pride for the Gaddi community, especially in Chamba and Kangra districts. He pledged to work diligently to fulfill the expectations placed upon him.
Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh was also present at the meeting.
