Himanta, wife’s income rises to ₹35.16 crore from ₹17.27 crore

The combined income of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife, entrepreneur Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, has more than doubled over five years, rising to Rs 35.16 crore in 2026 from Rs 17.27 crore in 2021, according to the affidavit Sarma filed for his nomination as a BJP candidate from the Jalukbari constituency on Friday.

 

The 57-year-old chief minister declared that he holds only movable assets worth Rs 2.36 crore, up from Rs 1.72 crore in 2021. His wife, who serves as Managing Director of the media company Pride East Entertainment, reported both movable and immovable assets of Rs 32.79 crore, compared to Rs 16.19 crore five years ago.

 

Sarma has Rs 2.28 lakh in cash and four bank deposits totaling Rs 68.02 lakh. Riniki Bhuyan Sarma has Rs 3.16 lakh in hand and four bank deposits amounting to Rs 74.85 lakh. While the CM has no investments in bonds, debentures, shares, or mutual funds, his wife holds Rs 5.10 crore in these instruments. Similarly, Sarma has no life insurance or vehicles, whereas Riniki owns a policy worth Rs 1.78 crore and a jeep purchased in 2018 for Rs 21.60 lakh.

In gold holdings, the CM declared 180 gms valued at Rs 25.10 lakh, while Riniki possesses 1,459.22 gms worth Rs 2.03 crore. Neither owns agricultural land, and Sarma has no non-agricultural property. Riniki, however, owns three non-agricultural properties, two purchased and one inherited, worth Rs 19.25 crore. These include a 12,960 sq ft plot with a house valued at Rs 1.60 crore, an inherited property now worth Rs 1.40 crore, and a 2,127 sq ft plot acquired in 2022 valued at Rs 4.25 crore.

 

Liabilities stand at Rs 95.05 lakh for the CM and Rs 15.91 crore for his spouse. Sarma cited his government salary as income, while Riniki’s income is from her professional salary. His children, included in the 2021 affidavit, are now adults and not considered dependents.

 

A Political Science graduate, Sarma also holds a doctorate from Gauhati University and a law degree. He declared no criminal cases pending or convictions against him.
