Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has launched a scathing attack on the BJP government, accusing it of driving Haryana into financial distress by pushing the state into an unprecedented level of debt.
He alleged that despite repeated demands, the government has refused to release a white paper on the state's finances, fearing that it would expose misleading claims and manipulated statistics.
Hooda presented detailed figures to support his argument, stating that Haryana’s total debt has surged to Rs 5,16,007 crore under BJP rule. He compared this with the period from 1966 to 2013-14, when the state's debt was limited to Rs 60,000 crore. He highlighted that the internal debt alone has now reached Rs 3,52,819 crore.
Additionally, the total liabilities include Rs 48,000 crore from small savings, Rs 68,995 crore from public sector enterprises, and Rs 46,193 crore from other liabilities and pending bills, bringing the total debt beyond Rs 5 lakh crore.
Drawing comparisons with his tenure, Hooda pointed out several key developmental projects undertaken during Congress rule. He stated that under the Congress government, Haryana saw the establishment of one health university, six new medical colleges, AIIMS-2, and the National Cancer Institute.
The Congress tenure also witnessed the setup of a central university, 12 government universities, 154 new polytechnic colleges, 56 new ITIs, four government engineering colleges, and several Sainik schools.
To boost industrial growth, six new Industrial Model Townships (IMTs) and five power plants were established.
